What began as a hobby in the 1970s began when Domenico Berni purchased a small plot of land in the area known as "Contrada El Petroso." The slopes have been used as vineyards since the 14th century, and thus the story of Pietroso began. Initially, he made wine for family and friends, but with their encouragement, Domenico decided to pursue winemaking full-time.

Today, the winery, which owns three separate vineyards near Montalcino, is run by Domenico's great-nephews. The grapes are hand-harvested and farmed as sustainably as possible. The grapes from the different vineyards are vinified separately and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in large Slavonian barrels.

This is a wonderful example of the potential of Rosso di Montalcino. It's full-bodied and robust, with captivating aromas of Marasca cherry and a lingering, spicy, pink pepper-like finish. The palate is dry, well-structured, yet harmonious. An excellent wine for everyday enjoyment.
